Nostalgia and the future, hand in hand

On a beautifully sunny, crisp, still morning in late November, a West Coast Railways’ steam train chuffed its way through Godalming, joyously tooting its whistle in celebration of the bygone age of steam on its way from London to Bath via Southampton.

The lack of wind meant that the smoke trail hung in the air for a few minutes after the train had left, showing its route South towards Milford through our local part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
